Auberge du Chocolat have workshops for all ages of children. The workshops do have are educational aspect but are also great fun. The basic format lasts 2 hours with children divided into three groups. These groups move around the unit doing different activities in each room, with every group doing all three activities.
In the first room the children learn about chocolate: where it comes from, how it’s made, health benefits etc. The depth of this is dependent on the age of the children & it is accompanied by tasting of different types of chocolate. At the end of the session there is a quiz where the children can win small prizes (given at the end of the visit in the prize giving section)
The next room is on the shop floor. The children are dressed correctly & taught a little about food hygiene. They then discover how to temper chocolate – a child or teacher dependent on age will get to use the tempering machine, & learn how chocolate models are made
The final room is totally hands-on. Here the children make something which will then be theirs to take home. Here again there is a chance to win prizes
At the end everyone gathers back together. We have a prize giving session & then the children go shopping.
The activity lasts 2 hours & costs £9/child.
We do ask that children are advised to bring some spending money for the shop. Going shopping at the end is also an activity they really enjoy & it does teach further skills.
